CVSS v4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
CVE-ID: CVE-2026-72156
CWE-ID: CWE-125
Exploitation vector: Local access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to out-of-bounds read in mpf_ops_parse_header() in the microchip-spi FPGA manager driver when parsing a crafted bitstream header with a zero header_size value. A local attacker can supply a crafted bitstream to trigger the out-of-bounds read and cause a denial of service.

The issue is triggered specifically when the header_size field at offset 24 is zero, causing a read one byte before the start of the buffer.
