CVE-ID: CVE-2026-72151
CWE-ID: CWE-416
Exploitation vector: Local access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free in tpm_buf_append_salt in drivers/char/tpm/tpm2-sessions.c when handling asynchronous ecdh-nist-p256 KPP operations. A local attacker can trigger entropy polling that reaches the vulnerable code path to cause a denial of service.

The issue occurs when the resolved KPP backend is asynchronous, such as atmel-ecc, HPRE, or keembay-ocs, and no user interaction is required.
