Improper control of a resource through its lifetime in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-72116
Published: August 16, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to improper state management in the net/can/bcm.c CAN broadcast manager tx_ops handling when a CAN device is unregistered while cyclic transmission remains active. A local user can trigger device removal conditions for an existing operation to cause a denial of service.
The issue can leave an hrtimer re-arming indefinitely and may allow injection into a later reused ifindex until an explicit TX_SETUP update occurs.
