Use-after-free in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-72080
Published: August 16, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free in event file handling for the default resctrl resource group when reading a monitoring event file during unmount or teardown. A local user can read a monitoring event file concurrently with unmount to cause a denial of service.
The issue occurs because the default resource group is not marked deleted, allowing a waiting reader to resume after kernfs node teardown and dereference already-freed file private data.
