Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local privileged user to modify tunnel configuration across network namespaces.

The vulnerability exists due to improper access control in vti6_changelink() in the ip6_vti component when handling changelink requests for a tunnel device associated with another network namespace. A local privileged user can send a changelink request from a namespace where they hold CAP_NET_ADMIN to modify tunnel configuration across network namespaces.

The issue arises when the device network namespace and the tunnel link network namespace differ.
