Vulnerability identifier: #VU143580
CSH Severity: High
CVSS v4: 8.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
CVE-ID: CVE-2026-72018
CWE-ID: CWE-787
Exploitation vector: Remote access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform an out-of-bounds write in kernel memory.

The vulnerability exists due to out-of-bounds write in smc_lo_move_data() when processing peer-supplied offset and size values. A remote attacker can send crafted data parameters to perform an out-of-bounds write in kernel memory.

The issue affects the software loopback implementation, which does not enforce memory region bounds like real ISM hardware.

Ubuntu
linux-gcp-7.0 (Ubuntu package)
linux-azure-7.0 (Ubuntu package)
