Improper update of reference count in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-74721
Published: August 24, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to incorrect reference count management in amdxdna_insert_pages() when handling page-insertion errors during memory mapping. A local user can trigger page-insertion failures to cause a denial of service.
The issue arises because VMA close handling can occur before the mmap operation has returned, and the VMA may later be torn down again, leading to a reference count underflow.
