Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a null pointer dereference in remove_cache_mod() in the tracing subsystem when handling crafted writes to /sys/kernel/tracing/set_event. A local user can send specially crafted event filter strings to cause a denial of service.

The issue is triggered when a module-only event filter is cached for a module that has not been loaded, and a later concatenated write attempts to remove a specific match from the same module.
