Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code.

The vulnerability exists due to uncontrolled recursion in vfio_ccw channel program processing when handling channel programs with many TIC-linked segments. A remote attacker can supply a crafted channel program to execute arbitrary code.

The issue arises because channel programs are processed recursively and segment counts created by Transfer-In-Channel (TIC) CCWs were not equivalently limited.
