Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to incorrect calculation of address alignment in RISC-V vmemmap_start_pfn handling when initializing sparse memory metadata on systems where the DRAM base is not aligned to the required folio-based boundary. A local user can trigger kernel initialization in a vulnerable environment to cause a denial of service.

The issue was observed as a kernel warning in sparse_init on RISC-V systems such as QEMU virt.
