Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to trigger a kernel warning.

The vulnerability exists due to improper initialization of the xa_state workingset state in __folio_split() when splitting a memcg-charged page-cache folio. A local user can cause a live memcg-charged xa_node to remain unlinked from the mapping's shadow_nodes list_lru to trigger a kernel warning.

The warning is triggered when reclaim walks the list_lru.
