Improper locking in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-89820
Published: September 17, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to improper lock release in the AMD display manager's dm_suspend and dm_resume functions when handling GPU reset error paths. A local user can trigger a GPU reset that reaches an error path and leaves dc_lock held to cause a denial of service.
The condition occurs when amdgpu_dm_commit_zero_streams or dm_dmub_hw_init fails.
