Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a race condition in madvise_cold_or_pageout_pte_range() when processing MADV_COLD or MADV_PAGEOUT requests concurrently with device-private PMD migration. A local user can trigger the race to cause a denial of service.

The issue can occur when an HMM-based GPU driver changes a PMD to a device-private entry while the memory-advice operation is in progress.
