Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to improper execution-context validation in the bpf_sys_bpf() and bpf_sys_close() BPF syscall helpers when BPF timer callbacks invoke the helpers. A local user can register a BPF timer callback that invokes either helper to cause a denial of service.

BPF timer callbacks are checked in a non-sleepable context and can run in hrtimer softirq context.
