Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to integer overflow in get_boot_config_from_initrd() when processing a crafted initrd bootconfig. A local user can supply a crafted initrd with a huge bootconfig size to cause a denial of service.

The issue can trigger during early boot on 32-bit systems; 64-bit systems are also affected when the initrd exceeds 4.29 GB.
