CWE-ID: CWE-787
Exploitation vector: Remote access

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a remote user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to an out-of-bounds write in boks_ksllogsd KSL checksum initialization when processing an authenticated KSL start message containing an oversized MD field. A remote user can supply an oversized OpenSSL-recognized digest name to write beyond the end of a heap allocation and cause a denial of service.

The digest name is validated as recognized by OpenSSL but is not validated to fit in the fixed 16-byte checksum context field.
