Buffer overflow in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98296

Published: October 7, 2026

Vulnerability identifier: #VU153723
CSH Severity: Low
CVSS v4: 2 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98296
CWE-ID: CWE-120
Exploitation vector: Local access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to corrupt memory beyond a DMA buffer.

The vulnerability exists due to copying data without checking its size against the destination buffer in btintel_pcie_prepare_tx() when processing oversized transmit packets through btintel_pcie_send_sync(). A local user can cause an oversized packet to reach the unchecked memcpy to corrupt memory beyond a DMA buffer.

The DMA slot has a fixed capacity of 4096 bytes. The described exploitation depends on a future caller submitting oversized packets through this path; the existing btintel_pcie_send_frame() entry point rejects oversized packets.
