Improper handling of exceptional conditions in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98279
Published: October 7, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to improper handling of metadata reservation failures in the Btrfs verity rollback and orphan cleanup functions when cleaning up verity items after a failed verity enablement. A local user can trigger verity enablement that encounters a quota limit and subsequent rollback failure to cause a denial of service.
The triggering quota limit can be confined to a single subvolume.
