Out-of-bounds write in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98232
Published: October 7, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows an attacker with physical access to execute arbitrary code and disclose sensitive information.
The vulnerability exists due to out-of-bounds reads and writes in scsi_cdl_enable() in drivers/scsi/scsi.c when processing target-supplied MODE SENSE length fields. An attacker with physical access can supply crafted MODE SENSE responses through a USB storage device that identifies as an ATA device and advertises CDL support to execute arbitrary code and disclose sensitive information.
Exploitation is reachable during automatic device scanning without a filesystem mount or userspace access to the block device. Code execution was demonstrated using a build-specific, one-vCPU QEMU/Raw Gadget proof with QEMU-only multi-UDC allocator sampling, while KASLR and NX were enabled.
