Improper locking in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98223
Published: October 7, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to trigger a sleeping-in-atomic warning in the kernel.
The vulnerability exists due to a potentially sleeping lock acquisition in non-preemptible context in mm/filemap.c when invalidating mapped dropbehind folios after writeback completes. A local user can trigger fault-around mapping of a dropbehind folio to trigger a sleeping-in-atomic warning in the kernel.
