NULL pointer dereference in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98411

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a null-pointer dereference in the Linux kernel power sequencing subsystem when handling a dev_set_name() failure in pwrseq_device_register(). A local user can trigger the device-registration error path to cause a denial of service.

The error path invokes pwrseq_release(), which unconditionally iterates over the targets list before its list head has been initialized.
