Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to trigger a kernel warning.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of the interface's driver-presence state in ieee80211_set_bitrate_mask() when handling wireless bitrate-setting requests. A local user can issue a SIOCSIWRATE ioctl for an interface marked as running but absent from the driver to trigger a kernel warning.

The affected state can occur during interface teardown or during bringup before the interface is added to the driver.
