CVE-ID: N/A
CWE-ID: CWE-704
Exploitation vector: Remote access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service by terminating a FreeRDP client process.

The vulnerability exists due to an incorrect type conversion in the rfx_rlgr_decode function in libfreerdp/codec/rfx_rlgr.c when decoding server-supplied tile data with RemoteFX surface decoding enabled. A remote attacker can trick a victim into connecting to a malicious RDP server and send a crafted RemoteFX tileset containing RLGR code 32767 to trigger an assertion during the conversion of code + 1 to int16_t and terminate the client process.

The process-terminating assertion depends on the build configuration and requires WITH_VERBOSE_WINPR_ASSERT to be enabled.
