Vulnerability identifier: #VU156732
CSH Severity: Low
CVSS v4: 4.6 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98434
CWE-ID: CWE-1284
Exploitation vector: Local access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local privileged user to bypass intended sysctl value limits, potentially disrupting kernel behavior.

The vulnerability exists due to missing numeric range validation in do_proc_int_conv_ms_jiffies_minmax in the Linux kernel when converting sysctl values between milliseconds and jiffies. A local privileged user can supply out-of-range values to a writable sysctl setting handled by this function to bypass its intended limits and potentially disrupt kernel behavior.

Affected software

Linux kernel
