Improper locking in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98444
Published: October 22, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service by potentially blocking XFS quota operations.
The vulnerability exists due to failure to release the dquot flush lock in the XFS quota-management function xfs_qm_flush_one() when obtaining the buffer associated with a dquot fails. A local user can trigger a quota flush that encounters this failure condition to leave the lock held and potentially block subsequent operations that require it.
