Improper handling of exceptional conditions in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98445
Published: October 22, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to potentially cause a denial of service through leaked filesystem blocks or filesystem shutdown.
The vulnerability exists due to improper handling of memory allocation failures in the XFS xrep_newbt_add_blocks function when allocating a reservation object during online filesystem repair. A local user can potentially trigger an allocation failure to leave blocks allocated for a new btree unreleased or cause the filesystem to shut down because the callers cannot both undo the transaction and return an error.
