Missing Release of Resource after Effective Lifetime in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98480
Published: October 22, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to leave an NFC device powered on after a failed startup, potentially causing unnecessary power consumption.
The vulnerability exists due to missing release of a power-management resource in trf7970a_startup() when a register read or write fails while applying optional RX gain reduction. A local user can potentially trigger an affected startup attempt to leave the device powered on with an unreleased VIN regulator reference.
