Use-after-free in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98512
Published: October 22, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to potentially cause a denial of service by triggering a read of freed kernel memory.
The vulnerability exists due to use-after-free in the Linux kernel nouveau scheduler when retrieving timeline information for a finished fence after its scheduler has been destroyed. A local user can query an exported fence through SYNC_IOC_FILE_INFO to trigger drm_sched_fence_get_timeline_name() to dereference freed scheduler memory, potentially causing a kernel crash.
