Vulnerability identifier: #VU156826
CSH Severity: Low
CVSS v4: 8.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98524
CWE-ID: CWE-416
Exploitation vector: Local access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the affected system.

The vulnerability exists due to use-after-free in the Linux kernel RDS InfiniBand memory-region handling code when a failed mapping or registration leaves a freed scatterlist referenced by a pooled memory region. A local user can trigger this failure condition and subsequent memory-region teardown to access freed memory, potentially escalating privileges.
