Improper Validation of Specified Quantity in Input in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98556
Published: October 22, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause oversized packets to reach a network device, potentially disrupting packet transmission.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient packet-size validation in the Linux kernel's layer 2 forwarding path when forwarding GSO packets that subsequently undergo software segmentation. A local user can supply packets with an oversized gso_size through a tap interface or packet socket to produce non-TSO packets exceeding the device's supported packet size, potentially disrupting packet transmission.
