CSH Severity: Medium
CVSS v4: 7.1 [CVSS:4.0/AV:A/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98582
CWE-ID: CWE-125
Exploitation vector: Adjecent network
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker on the local network to trigger out-of-bounds reads that may cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to out-of-bounds reads in the Linux kernel's st21nfca_hci_i2c_repack() function when processing malformed received frames. A remote attacker on the local network can supply a frame with an EOF marker immediately after the start marker or a trailing escape marker to cause CRC processing or byte unstuffing to read beyond the received frame boundary, potentially causing a kernel crash.
