Memory corruption in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98589
Published: October 22, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local privileged user to potentially corrupt kernel memory or cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to incorrect tracking of packet-memory pointer validity in the Linux kernel BPF verifier when packet pointers are passed to subprograms that may mutate packet data. A local privileged user can submit a crafted BPF program that passes a packet pointer to such a subprogram to potentially access invalidated packet memory and cause kernel memory corruption or a denial of service.
