Race condition in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98598
Published: October 22, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service by stalling network device unregistration.
The vulnerability exists due to a race condition in the Linux kernel IPv6 routing subsystem when inserting route exceptions concurrently with route removal. A local user can trigger exception insertion for a fib6_info undergoing removal to create a reference cycle that leaks routing resources and prevents network device unregistration from completing.
