Out-of-bounds read in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98611
Published: October 22, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local privileged user to trigger out-of-bounds kernel memory reads, potentially causing a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to an out-of-bounds read in bpf_crypto_ctx_create() in kernel/bpf/crypto.c when processing a parameter buffer shorter than struct bpf_crypto_params. A local privileged user can supply a BPF program that calls the function with a short buffer to cause the kernel to read reserved fields at offsets 14 and 15 beyond the region validated by the verifier, potentially causing a kernel crash.
