Use-after-free in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98616
Published: October 22, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local privileged user to cause a denial of service by triggering a kernel crash.
The vulnerability exists due to use-after-free in the Linux kernel fbnic Ethernet driver when closing a network device after failed PCIe error recovery or a failed datapath reopen during resume. A local privileged user can trigger the affected teardown sequence to cause fbnic_dbg_down() to dereference freed NAPI vectors because num_napi retains a nonzero count, resulting in a kernel crash.
