Use-after-free in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98694

Published: October 22, 2026

Vulnerability identifier: #VU157034
CSH Severity: Low
CVSS v4: 5.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98694
CWE-ID: CWE-416
Exploitation vector: Local access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to potentially cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free in the Linux kernel Thunderbolt control channel request handling when request completion races with cancellation. A local user can potentially trigger this race during control channel operations to cause a request worker to be scheduled again after its request has been dequeued and freed, potentially resulting in a kernel crash.
