Published: October 22, 2026

Vulnerability identifier: #VU157040
CSH Severity: Low
CVSS v4: 4.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98700
CWE-ID: CWE-665
Exploitation vector: Local access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to potentially disrupt wireless communication through incorrect transmit-rate selection.

The vulnerability exists due to improper initialization of transmit band metadata in the mac80211 ieee80211_8023_xmit() function when processing 802.3 encapsulation offload frames on non-MLD interfaces. A local user can trigger transmission of affected frames to cause transmit-rate selection using an incorrect frequency band, potentially disrupting wireless communication.
