CWE-ID: CWE-476
Exploitation vector: Remote access

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service by crashing a bRPC MySQL client.

The vulnerability exists due to a null pointer dereference in Apache bRPC's MysqlReply::ConsumePartialIOBuf when a zero-payload-length response passes the frame-length check but a subsequent five-byte fetch returns nullptr. A remote attacker can send a zero-length response packet from a malicious MySQL server, or inject one from an on-path position, to trigger an unchecked access to the response type byte and crash the client process.
