Unchecked Return Value in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-98880
Published: October 24, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local privileged user to cause a denial of service.
The vulnerability exists due to unchecked return values from sb_set_blocksize in the ntfs3 ntfs_init_from_boot function when mounting an NTFS filesystem. A local privileged user can trigger mounting with a block size greater than PAGE_SIZE to cause a kernel assertion failure in folio_set_bh during the first __bread_gfp call, resulting in a denial of service.
