Use-after-free in Linux kernel - CVE-2026-99174
Published: October 29, 2026
Vulnerability details
The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service by triggering a kernel crash.
The vulnerability exists due to use-after-free in the Linux kernel ext4 filesystem when RCU-mode symlink traversal races with the release of the final mount reference. A local user can trigger concurrent path traversal and final reference release on a lazily unmounted filesystem to access freed superblock information or destroyed extent status counters and cause a kernel crash.
