Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service by crashing the Linux kernel.

The vulnerability exists due to a null pointer dereference caused by insufficient task validation in libiscsi's __iscsi_complete_pdu() function when processing iSCSI management responses. A remote attacker can send an unsolicited NOP-In or a Text Response from a controlled iSCSI target with an initiator task tag identifying a never-used task slot, causing a null task connection pointer to be dereferenced and crashing the kernel.
