Vulnerability identifier: #VU158478
CSH Severity: Low
CVSS v4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]
CVE-ID: CVE-2026-99107
CWE-ID: CWE-805
Exploitation vector: Local access
Exploit availability: No public exploit available

Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to trigger incorrect memory operations that may cause kernel memory corruption and a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to incorrect memory-operation size calculations in the Linux kernel NTFS ntfs_new_attr_flags() function when resizing an attribute stored in an extent MFT record. A local user can trigger this attribute-resizing operation to cause the base MFT record pointer to be passed to ntfs_attr_record_resize() instead of the extent record pointer, resulting in incorrect memmove size calculations that may corrupt kernel memory.
