Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local privileged user to cause a denial of service by triggering a kernel fault.

The vulnerability exists due to use of uninitialized variables in the Linux kernel ftrace print_rec() function when a symbol lookup fails. A local privileged user can read available_filter_functions while a module is being loaded or unloaded to trigger dereferencing of an uninitialized module-name pointer in seq_printf(), causing a kernel fault.
