Detailed vulnerability description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a NULL pointer dereference error in the ignore_section_sym function in elf.c in the Binary File Descriptor (BFD) library. A remote attacker can trigger denial of service conditions via a specially crafted file, as demonstrated by objcopy.
