#VU28870 Input validation error in Windows and Windows Server - CVE-2020-1284
Published: June 9, 2020
Windows
Windows Server
Microsoft
Description
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to the way Microsoft Server Message Block 3.1.1 (SMBv3) protocol handles certain requests.
To exploit the vulnerability against a server, an authenticated attacker can send a specially crafted packet to a targeted SMBv3 server. To exploit the vulnerability against a client, an unauthenticated attacker would need to configure malicious SMBv3 server and convince a user to connect to it.
