A group behind BlueLeaks released old WikiLeaks chats

The transparency collective known as DDoSecrets has launched a site where it published sensitive documents and communications related to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. In June, the same group released online a trove of sensitive data belonging to more than 200 police departments.

The collection of files covers early years in WikiLeaks and contains a number of chat logs between Julian Assange and other associates. The documents posted on the site include chat logs and letters dating back to 2010 between Assange, sources and hackers, including the convicted hacker Jeremy Hammond and Sigurdur Thordarson, an early WikiLeaks supporter who provided information about the group to the FBI.

The documents also relate to Chelsea Manning, the former U.S. Army intelligence analyst and whistleblower who leaked files WikiLeaks, and upcoming releases the organisation had planned at the time.

“With the Justice Department's superseding indictment against Assange, public access to the evidence becomes critical. The documents in this file illuminate that case and illustrate how WikiLeaks operates behind closed doors. AssangeLeaks is not for or against Julian Assange or WikiLeaks, and is only interested in the evidence,” the announcement on the site reads.

Last month, the US Department of Justice has broadened its criminal case against Julian Assange in a superseding indictment that accuses the WikiLeaks founder of conspiring with hackers affiliated with Anonymous and LulzSec hacking groups.

Julian Assange was arrested last year after being evicted from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, wh ere he had sought refuge to avoid extradition to Sweden on a rape allegation that he denied. Assange is currently detained in the United Kingdom under a U.S. extradition request.
