Description

This security bulletin contains information about 11 vulnerabilities.

1) Concurrent execution using shared resource with improper synchronization ('race condition') (CVE-ID: CVE-2008-4307)

CWE-ID: CWE-362 - Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization ('Race Condition')

CVSSv4: 5.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to concurrent execution using shared resource with improper synchronization ('race condition') error. A local user can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

2) Resource management errors (CVE-ID: CVE-2008-6107)

CWE-ID: CWE-399 - Resource Management Errors

CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The (1) sys32_mremap function in arch/sparc64/kernel/sys_sparc32.c, the (2) sparc_mmap_check function in arch/sparc/kernel/sys_sparc.c, and the (3) sparc64_mmap_check function in arch/sparc64/kernel/sys_sparc.c, in the Linux kernel before 2.6.25.4, omit some virtual-address range (aka span) checks when the mremap MREMAP_FIXED bit is not set, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (panic) via unspecified mremap calls, a related issue to CVE-2008-2137.

3) Security restrictions bypass (CVE-ID: CVE-2009-0028)

CWE-ID: CWE-264 - Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls

CVSSv4: 4.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to perform service disruption.

The clone system call in the Linux kernel 2.6.28 and earlier allows local users to send arbitrary signals to a parent process from an unprivileged child process by launching an additional child process with the CLONE_PARENT flag, and then letting this new process exit.

4) Improper input validation (CVE-ID: CVE-2009-0029)

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

CVSSv4: 8.5 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to execute arbitrary code.

The ABI in the Linux kernel 2.6.28 and earlier on s390, powerpc, sparc64, and mips 64-bit platforms requires that a 32-bit argument in a 64-bit register was properly sign extended when sent from a user-mode application, but cannot verify this, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (crash) or possibly gain privileges via a crafted system call.

5) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2009-0065)

CWE-ID: CWE-119 - Memory corruption

CVSSv4: 9.3 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code.

The vulnerability exists due to memory corruption within the sctp_sf_eat_fwd_tsn() and sctp_sf_eat_fwd_tsn_fast() functions in net/sctp/sm_statefuns.c. A remote non-authenticated attacker can execute arbitrary code.

6) Integer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2009-0322)

CWE-ID: CWE-190 - Integer overflow

CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to integer overflow error. A local user can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

7) Permissions, privileges, and access controls (CVE-ID: CVE-2009-0675)

CWE-ID: CWE-264 - Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls

CVSSv4: 4.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to manipulate data.

The vulnerability exists due to security restrictions bypass error within the skfp_ioctl() function in drivers/net/skfp/skfddi.c. A local user can manipulate data.

8) Permissions, privileges, and access controls (CVE-ID: CVE-2009-0676)

CWE-ID: CWE-264 - Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls

CVSSv4: 4.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to gain access to sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to security restrictions bypass error within the sock_getsockopt() function in net/core/sock.c. A local user can gain access to sensitive information.

9) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2009-0834)

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

CVSSv4: 4.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to read and manipulate data.

The vulnerability exists due to improper input validation within the send_sigtrap() function in arch/x86/kernel/ptrace.c. A local user can read and manipulate data.

10) Security restrictions bypass (CVE-ID: CVE-2009-0835)

CWE-ID: CWE-264 - Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls

CVSSv4: 4.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to read and manipulate data.

The __secure_computing function in kernel/seccomp.c in the seccomp subsystem in the Linux kernel 2.6.28.7 and earlier on the x86_64 platform, when CONFIG_SECCOMP is enabled, does not properly handle (1) a 32-bit process making a 64-bit syscall or (2) a 64-bit process making a 32-bit syscall, which allows local users to bypass intended access restrictions via crafted syscalls that are misinterpreted as (a) stat or (b) chmod, a related issue to CVE-2009-0342 and CVE-2009-0343.

11) Improper input validation (CVE-ID: CVE-2009-0859)

CWE-ID: CWE-20 - Improper input validation

CVSSv4: 6.8 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to improper input validation error within the shm_get_stat() function in ipc/shm.c. A local user can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
