The vulnerability allows a local user to cause a denial of service.

The vulnerability exists due to improper initialization in apple_smc_read() when sub-device probe functions invoke read operations. A local user can trigger access to the affected driver path to cause a denial of service.

The issue may result in occasional NULL pointer dereferences during probe-time reads.
