1) Improper Check for Unusual or Exceptional Conditions (CVE-ID: CVE-2026-98138)

CWE-ID: CWE-754 - Improper Check for Unusual or Exceptional Conditions

CVSSv4: 2 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N]

The vulnerability allows a local user to prevent recovery of recorded NTFS volume errors.

The vulnerability exists due to an improper check for exceptional conditions in ntfs_sync_fs() in fs/ntfs/super.c when synchronizing an NTFS volume after errors have been recorded. A local user can trigger a filesystem synchronization that clears the volume dirty bit to prevent recovery of recorded NTFS volume errors.

The issue was reproduced on a volume whose $MFTMirr does not match $MFT.
