Vulnerability details

The vulnerability allows a local user to prevent recovery of recorded NTFS volume errors.

The vulnerability exists due to an improper check for exceptional conditions in ntfs_sync_fs() in fs/ntfs/super.c when synchronizing an NTFS volume after errors have been recorded. A local user can trigger a filesystem synchronization that clears the volume dirty bit to prevent recovery of recorded NTFS volume errors.

The issue was reproduced on a volume whose $MFTMirr does not match $MFT.
